Fall Brings Us Football, Foliage and Fabulosity! As I write you from here in the heart of the Midwest, the Fall football season is in full swing and the foliage, which I’d been worried about due to the summer drought, is just starting to fade. But it was absolutely brilliant here while it lasted. Hope your part of the country has also enjoyed some Fall beauty and harvest bounty. As for the fabulosity, we’ve got so much of that to share with you this issue, we’re a bit late with publishing – we just kept pushing back the date in order to incorporate “one more thing.”... (Read More ...)

Can You Believe That 2012 Is Almost Half Over? Where Has The Year Gone? I don’t know about you, but for me it’s kind of mind-boggling. Before I know it, we will have reached one of my favorite summer days – Summer Solstice – the longest day. Always a great time for celebrating. Especially if you, like me, feel more energetic when the sun is shining! Just thinking about this takes me back to my college days in Madison, Wisconsin, where we used to celebrate the solstice with a day of summer activity, capped off by swimming from the pier at the Wisconsin Memorial Union,... (Read More ...)

As April Ends It’s Time to Use Our “Outside Voices” – We Must Speak Up to Protect Our Rights April is flying by – fast. We’ve already had Passover, Easter, Tax Day and Earth Day. The “next big thing” is the “We Are Women March,” set for this weekend: Saturday, April 28th. If you haven’t yet heard about this event, it will be big: Women everywhere are relocating their voices and marching in every state capital, including DC, displaying their non-partisan unity in an effort to tell our legislators “Enough is enough!” If... (Read More ...)

Cooking Up a Big Batch of Tasty March Madness OK, I’ve always been partial to March for a number of reasons: Spring Break, St. Patrick’s Day/Week, high school basketball’s March Madness – and of course, my birthday! This year is even more special, since the weather has been so spectacular! And a little bittersweet, since I’ve crossed the big birthday line – I’m no longer 59! I’ve been doing a lot of baking and creative cookery lately. For example, I made myself a fabulous Boston Cream Pie for my birthday, and perfected a decadent brownie/cheesecake... (Read More ...)

2012’s In High Gear, Are You? We’re well into 2012. It’s already February. Which means that a few resolutions have been broken, the Super Bowl is a memory, and the star-studded new song and dance show Smash, NBC’s answer to the Fox Network’s megahit Glee, has finally aired its first episode, after having been promoted for months…. I’m not a resolution maker, but I do try to set goals at the beginning of each year. Some of them are small, like clear the paper piles off my desk so that I have a nice clean space to work in. For that one, I was inspired by the quote... (Read More ...)

Love * Peace * Joy * Happiness * Gratitude My wish for you now and throughout the New Year is that these are woven into the fabric of your days. I believe that if we experience even one of them, we are rich, and richly blessed. I took great care with selecting the quotes for this issue. All of them inspire me, and I hope they will you, as well. I’m not sure which might be my favorite, but as a constellation, I plan to use them to guide me in leading the NABBW in the coming year. So please be sure not to overlook them! Please enjoy this issue. It’s been my pleasure to helm the... (Read More ...)

At NABBW, We’re Giving Thanks for You! Here in the United States, we’ve just come to the end of our long Thanksgiving weekend. By now, most families across the country have gathered around their tables – literally or figuratively — to share love and give thanks. Personally, we did most of our sharing by phone and email, as our gang was not able to physically get together this year. Whether you get together in person or in cyberspace,  I DO hope you have the opportunity to enjoy spending quality time with your families sometime during this month or in later, in December. While... (Read More ...)

Worldwide, Our Hearts Have Been Heavy These Past Few Days. And why wouldn’t they be? September used to be my favorite month, full of sunny skies and the promise of new beginnings as we started off a new school year. But 9/11 changed all of us. And with this being the 10th anniversary of that awful event, everywhere we turned, there was a new message, a new reminder. Certainly this is a day we must remember, and it commemorates a day and a lesson we must not forget. (Just as we all remember the day JFK was shot, the Lockerbie bombing/highjacking of Pan Am Flight 103, the Chernobyl disaster,... (Read More ...)

Hot, Hot Hot! It’s Late Summer! Welcome to another information-packed issue of Boomer Women’s World. It’s suddenly August and the weather continues to be hot and stormy here in the Midwest. Earlier this week, our little corner of the world experienced an intense rain. Water, water everywhere. We had somewhere between twelve and fifteen inches of rain fall in twelve hours. Much of it coming down in the first three hours. Thankfully my basement is only a little damp, and no harm came to us physically. Not everyone was so lucky. Many roads and homes were destroyed by this storm, and... (Read More ...)
