The Summer Reading Issue I don’t know about you, but no matter what the weather, I love to spend my free time reading and writing. When I was a kid, my mother would spend a good part of the summer trying to pry me away from my books, urging me to “go outside and play.” And play we did: My friends and I played tennis, softball, and swam. Worldwide, Our Hearts Have Been Heavy These Past Few Days. And why wouldn’t they be? September used to be my favorite month, full of sunny skies and the promise of new beginnings as we started off a new school year. But 9/11 changed all of us. And with this being the 10th anniversary of that awful event, everywhere we turned, there was a new message, a new reminder. Certainly this is a day we must remember, and it commemorates a day and a lesson we must not forget.
